Tom Mix
~ 1880 - 1940 ~

This is a photo of some of Tom Mix's personal belongings as they are
displayed at the Gene Autry Museum. Pictured are an Elgin pocket watch
and cigarette case. Also a sterling silver jewelry box, soap dish, shaving
brush case, toothbrush holder and ceramic ashtray, all personalized.

From my visit to the Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage in
Griffith Park, California, 2010.

Hello lizard.

Good-bye lizard.

One more.
Old Glory in the early evening illuminated
by our new solar flagpole light.

Friday, April 24, 2020

My son and I got out today and...

...put a solar light on our flagpole.
A friend was generous enough to buy it for us.
He is from England and is now an American citizen.
He loves the United States and wanted to do this for us.

Thank you so much! Salute!

We had a visitor today. Surprised the heck out of my mom
who was doing some weeding in the area. A baby. I'm tellin'
you, you gotta keep your dang eyes open all the time. It is
easy to forget that. This guy was kind of hard to see.

He was shakin' his little tail but there was not much
rattling going on. He is a beautiful little thing to be certain.

~ Ritchie Blackmore ~
Santa Monica Civic Auditorium - November 29th, 1975

Tuesday, April 21, 2020

Today my son and I repaired the halyard and installed new
hardware on our flagpole and got Old Glory to waving again.

This was actually my beloved stepfather's flagpole. He was
a proud retired Marine and he loved this country. Today's
raising of the Red, White and Blue was dedicated to him.

We miss you and we love you.

What a beautiful day.

It's Holster Day yet again at El Rancho De La Tex. These
are the first two holsters I ever bought... YEARS ago. As
you can see, they didn't get much use. They were both for a
Ruger Security Six .357 Magnum I used to have. Why do
I still have the holsters? Not sure.

Anyway, I bought the ugly black leather Triple K basketweave
holster at a gun show along with the HKS leather basketweave
double speed loader case. The speedloader case is pretty good.
The holster? I'm not in love.

The guy I bought them from had a ton of cardboard boxes on his tables.
You just say to the guy, "Hey, you got anything for a Security Six, six
inch?" He says, "Yeah!" and starts frantically digging though all of
the boxes and if you like what he comes up with? SOLD!

I liked that guy.

I bought the cordura holster on the right at a Big 5 store. It is a pretty
good one. I can't make out the brand on the holster from the picture
and the holster is packed away so I cannot look it up. These
two holsters hold some good memories for me.
Maybe that is why I still have them.

Monkeyspreading. It's real.

!!! Avocado Seed Update: Number Three !!!

Nuthin. Again.

On Saturday February 1st I put this avocado seed
in water and posted a photo. I will update again
when something (or nothing) happens. It's fun!

Late night quesa...

...DILLA!

Just flour tortillas, cheddar cheese mix,
green onions and jalapenos.
Simple... but GOOD.

It has been a long time since I have made a wish.
This just might be in my future.

~ Tonight at Borden Cinema ~
Chuck Norris as Col. Scott McCoy in "Delta Force 2: The
Colombian Connection" (1990). Col. McCoy is working out
his muscles and kicking some butt in preparation to rescue
some kidnapped DEA agents being held in San Carlos,
South America. Kidnapped by the evil kingpin Ramon Cota.

Damn that Ramon! DAMN him!

I rate this movie Eight out of Ten Aérospatiale Dauphin Gunships.

Fun Thing to Watch Out For: Lee Greenwood (God Bless the USA)
singing "The Winds of Change".
Just awesome.

Life is good.

Sunday, April 12, 2020

I was out driving to do my essential
shopping today and stopped to
take a picture of the sky which
I thought was pretty.

Saturday, April 11, 2020

Another rattlesnake in the driveway.
This one from sometime back.

Friday, April 10, 2020

Bring it on in, Mickey!

(My son took this picture.)

Thursday, April 9, 2020

I was out walking today and spotted these cute little red
succulents that just seemed to pop up out of nowhere.

Playing tonight at Borden Cinema is "Beach Party" starring
Frankie Avalon and  Annette Funicello. Lot's of singing and
dancing along to Dick Dale (the King of Surf Guitar) and the
Del-Tones. This was the first (1963) in a series of surf movies
and in this episode Eric Von Zipper gives himself The Finger.

Oh yeah, and boy gets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back,
boy loses girl, boy gets girl back again and this happens about
five more times until.... no spoilers.

Surf's up! Beach Party Tonight!

Another photo (because "photo" is so much more artsy than
"picture") from my visit to the Gene Autry Western Heritage
Museum in Griffith Park, CA 2014.

This is a chest along the Trails West outdoor section of the
museum. I love Trails West, or I did love Trails West. It is
no longer there much to my chagrin (as I have written
before). *deep breath* ANYWAY, I think this photo could
also pass as a chest from Pirates of the Caribbean.

The fern sells it.

Marconi Sport Peppers from World Market.
Sometimes I just like to look at the jar. It makes
my mouth water. These are the type of peppers
that you put on sandwiches and hot dogs. I just
eat them straight out of the jar. They are hot, but
not that hot. The only thing that is not great about
these peppers is that the skin tends to be a little "tough".
I can work around that.

And that's the lesson for today.

Monday, April 6, 2020

A little hail today, with
emphasis on the word "little".

We don't get much around here. It is rare for any to
even hang around for a while like this did.

I am pretty good with this.

Saturday, April 4, 2020

I finally broke down and hung this sign up in
the garage. I actually did this about six weeks
ago. At that time I had no idea how appropriate
it would end up being.

Friday, April 3, 2020

When I was young we use to play at a park near a golf
course. We use to go over to the dirt road surrounding
the course to catch frogs and sell balls back to the
golfers after they would hit them over the fence.

Of course these golf balls in the garage
ain't none of those golf balls.

Thursday, April 2, 2020

A friend gave this little box to me as a gift and
I have had it on my dresser for a long time. What you
see in there is what has been in the box for years.
No more and no less. I cannot figure out why.
