"Guillotine? Sounds French. I love the French!"
(My NECA 18" Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest"
talking Capt. Jack Sparrow figure.)

After waiting five years I went to see "Pirates of the Caribbean:
Dead Mean Tell No Tales". For one reason or another I wasn't
really excited though, not even as the movie started. Personal
stuff going on I guess. But as the movie progressed things got
great. I even on more than one occasion totally laughed out loud
and even involuntarily let out a few exclamations of excitement.

It's okay though. I had the 3D theater all to myself. I was the only one
in the whole place. That would normally be fantastic, but I want the
POTC movies to be shown a little support. These movies are
wonderful but if nobody goes to see them, that's it.
No more. Anyway...

Aye, here be a bit of a spoiler. There was a part in this movie that took us
back to Capt. Jack's origins. And it was.... it was... I'm going to say it. I'm
gonna use the word. It was lovely. They CGI'd or whatever it was Johnny
Depp to be a young Jack Sparrow and it was lovely. They showed a bit of how
witty Jack acquired some of his clothing and trinkets and how he became Captain
of The Black Pearl. It was awesome... and to me, lovely. What can I say.

In another part of the movie, Capt. Jack's crew uses a team of horses to
pull a huge safe out of a bank. Unfortunately the safe is stuck in the bank
and the entire bank building ends up being pulled through the town by the
team of horses. The crew makes a successful escape, bank building and all.
It made me laugh when I read on the IMDB website under "Goofs" that
it would be impossible for a team of horses to pull that building.
C'mon you guys. You are talking about Capt. Jack.

I'm going to rate "Dead Men Tell No Tales" 7.5 out of 10 Pirate Lives. In my
mind it is a 10 out of 10, but I will be a hair realistic.

Hopefully this movie will be out on Blu-ray soon.
I missed Capt. Jack.

I left this photo pretty darn big so if
you open it in a new window...

Just vegetables. Honest.

There was a lot of anticipation for this movie. The sequels
for "The Blair Witch Project" so far had not been very good.
But here was another chance at BW glory.

Then it hit theaters and folks were not impressed. I remember
going to see a different movie and seeing a trailer for a movie
called "The Woods". As it turns out, "The Woods" was actually a
preview of "Blair Witch". The movie folks were trying to keep
the fact that it was a BWP sequel from us and having a little
fun to boot, if I remember right.

And here is the anticlimactic ending to today's post. I had
seen this movie around when it came out on DVD but after
what I had heard about it, I was not going to put out a lot
of money for it. And now here we are. Price came down.
And I will see for myself how it is.

I wrote "it" a lot. Sorry.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

...later that night.

I watched Blair Witch, Well.... It did give me the creeps, and it
did keep me interested, and it was fun seeing some of the tie-ins
from the Blair Witch Project, but I cannot believe how they used
jump scares. Cheesy, stupid jump scares. "Throwing a cat on set"
jump scares. They did not need to do that. Am I glad I saw
it? Yes, I kind of liked it. I will rate it 5.5 out of 10
Makeshift Racks.

Oh yeah. Folks with claustrophobia will LOVE one the scenes.
Oh and Lisa carried what looked to be a Spyderco knife.
That was a plus.

I went to see "Alien Covenant".

Color ME disappointed. I really wish that I could write a bit more about
this movie, but I don't want to spoil anything for anybody. But I WILL
say this... Elizabeth Shaw. That's IT? #Really? The last movie, "Prometheus"
that most people did not care for, I liked. It totally left me wanting more.

Five years we waited. "Covenant" did NOT leave me wanting more. I will
still go to see the next one, but I pretty much already know what is going to
happen. I will buy "Covenant" when it comes out on Blu-ray to complete my
"Alien" collection. Maybe I will like it (better?) the second time around.

I'm going to be a softy and say that yes, this movie is worth seeing in the
theater, but at your own risk. At this point I am rating "Alien Covenant"
Six out of Ten Dorsal Tubes.

I stopped at Target on the way back to El Rancho and bought
"The Neon Demon" in an effort to take some leftover sour
taste out of my "Covenant" rattled brain.

A snake in the driveway as I came home tonight. Looks like
a harmless snake to me. But I aint'a pettin' to find out. I took
this picture from my car window as I was pulling in. I used
my flash in complete darkness. The guy was pretty still.
Not sure if he was feeling under the weather.

He is about four feet long and not as
pretty as a rattlesnake if'n ya ask me.

John Lennon made it to my shelf. This is NECA's 18 inch talking
John figure. I inherited him from a family member and he means
a lot to me. He is missing his sunglasses and packaging and he is
a little worse for wear, but that does not matter for this guy.

I could not help myself. I bought a new knife today. This is a Buck
Stockman 371. This is a larger version of the knife I have been carrying
since November of last year, the Buck Trio. I was planning on carrying the
Trio for a long... LONG time. But for those of us who love knives, seven
months is a pretty long time to carry a knife and the bug to play with
something new just catches up with us...

This Stockman knife has three blades: Sheepsfoot, spey and clip. The knife
has 420J2 steel which I like. It holds an edge pretty well and I find it easy
to sharpen. As a matter of fact, I usually just run my Trio over my strop
once a week or so and it is good to go. The handles are Brown Jigged
Bone. I don't know if they are real bone or some sort of plastic.
Probably not real bone. That's fine.

I still cringe at the China thing.
But it seems to be well made. Pretty good match up.
No play in the blades. If there were play in the blades,
it would go right back to the store. No room for that.
Crisp action too.

It's a Buck and if it is taken care of, this is a knife that can be
handed down to your kids and most likely their kids. And
what else that you pay $19.92 can you say that about?

This knife is too old school for a lot of folks these days.
These slip joint knives seem to be a novelty to them.
Their loss.

Oh, I bought this knife at Walmart, of course.

P.S. One more thing. This knife weighs in at 3.1 ounces.
For a knife this size, 3 7/8 inches closed, that is going to
be too heavy for some folks, so....

I do sometimes enjoy Midnight Snacks and this is one.
Great Value brand French Toast Sticks. Yeah. If you picked
one of these things up it would hang like a wet noodle
in your fingers. I rate these French toast sticks two
"These are GOOD!!" out of ten. Use tons of syrup.

I looked out the window of El Rancho Del La Tex at
about 5:30 or 6:00 AM and this is what I saw.

Oops, gotta turn the flash off.

THIS is what I saw.

Just some cactus laying around.

I got this pin for the new "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men
Tell No Tales" movie with my Disney Reward points. Including
shipping and handling it was........ freeeeeeee! I didn't really mean
to order it. I was just experimenting, going through the ordering
process just to see how much it would be, out of curiosity, when
all of a sudden, it was ordered.

I like the pin okay, but I have been saving my points for years for
something slightly more... epic. It's alright, I have a lot more points
left. At any rate, I cannot wait to see the new movie.

Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives.
His "Way Out West" CD. I watch Marty Stuart on RFDTV.
He has a great show. Lot's of great country. Marty was
playing with Lester Flat when he was 14 years old. 14.
Amazing.

My favorite Superlative is Kenny Vaughan. Kenny plays
lead and acoustic guitar. Here is a guy with major history
too. He has been playing with Marty Stuart since 2001. He
has played with everybody from Alan Jackson to Porter
Wagoner to The Pretenders.

I have to listen to this CD a few more times, but so far
I am pretty much liking it.

I picked up a few things.
I love the colors.

Tuesday, May 9, 2017

So I am walking around down in town and all of
a sudden I look up and see these trees just rustling
a bit with the cool breeze. It dawns on me what
a beautiful day it is. I love these moments.

I had seen "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" in the theater and couldn't
wait for it to come out so I could add it to my collection and watch it again.
I got it, I watched it, and I enjoyed it more the second time. It is still not
a classic, but if you are a fan, it is a lot of fun. If you are not a fan, I would
skip it. You will not like it. But hey, like a said before, Milla and weapons
is a win.

I mean, she can throw a full magazine in the air, break a guys arm, eject her
empty magazine and kick it into another guy's face, kick a third guys butt,
catch the full mag that she threw in the air, throw it into her pistol and start
shooting again. THAT my friends, is t-a-l-e-n-t.

I really hope that "The Final Chapter" will go the way of
"Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter" and indeed not
be, the final chapter.

And I was looking in the pile that Target likes to call a "Clearance Area"
and found a great deal. This Victorinox Camper knife for $11.98. That is
at least half off of most retail prices. In some cases it is MORE than half off.
This is a good deal. The saw on this knife is spectacular. I usually pass
on any SAK with a corkscrew as corkscrews are worthless to me, but $11.98?
I will put it in my knife box unopened for the day it might be needed.

~ Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales ~
I took this picture of the poster at the Regal Theater.
I cannot wait for this one. Soon. Aye.

"Pirate's life."

I'm just sayin...

Again, I don't know anything about motorcycles, but
to me this one looks real nice and I would gladly have it.

Thursday, May 4, 2017

I like to always have some Bush's Grillin' Beans on hand. They
have several flavors. This one (and my favorite) is Southern Pit
Barbecue. They are great on their own, but I like to doctor them up
a bit. I usually dice and throw in some bell peppers. I slice up some
jalapeno peppers and throw them in there too. I also add to taste a bit
(or a bunch) of Bull's-Eye Original Flavor Barbecue Sauce.

 Mmmmmm doggies!

And the piece of resistance is Dave's Insanity Sauce. It adds
heat, not necessarily flavor. And it is HOT. Dave's can be found
at most stores that sell foods from around the globe, or on the web.

It is really good if you heat all of this ahead of time and let it set
for a few hours or overnight in the refrigerator.

"Stagecoach: The Texas Jack Story" starring Trace Adkins. Questionable
quality, says I. But, you never know. At first it was upwards of 15 bucks.
Nope. Then it went closer to 14. Nope. Then $9.99. Nope. Today it was
$7.50. Okay, Judd Nelson and Kim Coates made $7.50 a go. From what
I have seen, the hardware looks pretty good. We will see.

It is probably ghastly.

....later that night.
Okay, since I said that Stagecoach might be ghastly I owe it to the movie
to comment on it. I watched it tonight and it, in fact, was... NOT ghastly.
I really liked it. It was not a great movie. It was slow, some of the acting was
not that good. But it was sincere. Trace Adkins did his best I am thinking.
Kim Coates is awesome. He plays an ass oh so well. This movie is NOT
his first time doing that. The bonus to look for is Judd Nelson as Sid. He is a
man of low character, an outlaw. Or IS he? He is funny and he is almost
lovable. It was Judd's first (and maybe only) Western.

For as slow as it was, I was kept interested the whole time. The dialogue did
that. The shootouts were okay. I am going to rate this one 5.5 out of 10 bottles
of Apple Jack Whiskey. As I watched this movie I could not believe that I was
liking it.  I paid $7.50. It was almost worth that. I guess that's all I got.

Totally out of character for me. T-o-t-a-l-l-y. But I saw the preview
for "Ride Along" on two other movies I have and it actually made me
laugh out loud, both times. So for some odd and strange reason, I wanted
to buy it. My son likes these type of movies so if I don't end up liking it,
I will give it to him. Not a total loss. $5.00.

(Ice Cube of N.W.A. starring as law enforcement is
kind of weird, but we will leave it alone.)

Hey look!! Pirates billboard! Camera!!
Quick! CAMERA!!

Monday, May 1, 2017

I bought a new Light My Fire titanium spork to put in
my purse. This one will replace the Snow Peak spork
(inset) that I have carried for a number of years. I wanted
to try the different design. Like I've written before, folks
laugh at me for carrying these things, but while they are
making a mess and burning their fingers, I am eating.

Oh, and I am not saying that the Snow Peak is not
terrific, because it IS, I am just experimenting.
