I believe the year was 1880 and in the town of Big Whiskey, Wyoming,
Sheriff Little Bill Daggett killed William Munny's best friend, Ned Logan.
Sheriff Daggett then placed in an open coffin out in front of Greeley's bar
the body of Logan with a sign that read "this is what happens to assassins
around here". When William Munny rode into town that rainy night and saw
his deceased partner and the sign, he totally lost it. He went into the
bar and started the justice process rolling with a mule ear coachgun.
The movie is Unforgiven (1992) starring Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman
and Gene Hackman. The sign that was used in the movie is in the photo above
and I took this picture at the Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage in
Griffith Park, California (2010). Unforgiven won the Academy Award for
Best Picture of 1992.
